JAN GEMROT

Jan Gemrot first drew attention upon his addmission to the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Due to his remarkable talent he was given a special exception to enter the Zdeněk Berans Artists Workshop (classical painting) after the third grade at the College and High art school of Vaclav Hollar. During the course of his studies, Mr. Gemrot was given several solo exhibitions in addition to participating in a number of group shows. His diploma work, a series entitled "Kidnapping" was bought by DvorakSec Contemporary for their collection. Since 2011 his work is part of permanent collection of National gallery in Prague.
The art of Jan Gemrot is a psychological excursion into the troubles of contemporary society., it is also their synthesis. He approaches the themes of his drawings with a realistic, or rather a hyper-realistic denotation, often punctuated by his particular gestic and expressive technique. Using concrete visual elements, his work tackles and presents otherwise hard-to-grasp feelings and atmospheres, which he delivers with strong psychological impact. His brilliant graphic presentation develops a story that always contains an untold element, which encourages each viewer to project their own personal viewpoint into the work. The urgency of his artistic testimony cannot be ovelooked. Mr. Gemrot creates work that connects a masterly painters virtuosity with intense, shocking substance that is played out on several interpretive levels. His conceptual thinking makes Jan Gemrot one of the leading artists of the contemporary art scene.
